Departmental Overview :

The Department of Medicine is one of the largest in SCBMC, Cuttack. It has 320 general beds, 30 beds for infectious diseases and diarrhea, and provisions for treating heat stroke and different epidemic diseases including dengue. It has a state-of-the-art ICU with 40 beds which is currently catering to COVID-19 patients.

The department has a large number of trained manpower which includes 4 Professors, 7 Associate Professors, 16 Assistant Professors, and 16 Senior Residents. All have expertise in different fields. The department enrolls the largest number of post-graduate students in a year (29), and therefore in three years, there are 87 postgraduate students — the largest anywhere in the country.

There is a huge patient load which has been increasing year by year, with 2,63,133 OPD cases and 36,700 indoor admissions in 2019–20. Patients treated in the Department of Medicine include referrals from all parts of Odisha, neighboring states, and across India.
