SCB Medical College, Cuttack is one of the premier medical colleges of India. It was established in 1944 during the pre-independence era after being upgraded from Odisha Medical School. Over the years, it has witnessed multiple phases of development, expansion, and modernization to fulfill the healthcare needs and aspirations of the people of this region.
Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik, SCB Medical College is undergoing a phenomenal redevelopment program to transform it in to a world-class healthcare facility — a medical institution of excellence for generations to come.
The doctors and staff of SCB Medical College strive to provide comprehensive and high-quality tertiary healthcare services including specialty and super-specialty services to all sections of society without any discrimination. All diagnostic services, medicines, surgeries, renal & bone marrow transplantation, ward accommodation, and patient food are offered free of cost.

Telemedicine Services
Telemedicine Services were established in 2001 in collaboration with ISRO and Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. These services provide distance medical education, teleconsultation for critically ill patients, follow-up care, and tele-video conferences.
The Telemedicine Center of SCB is connected to all District Headquarters Hospitals and other Medical Colleges of Odisha. It played a crucial role in virtual doctor training and continuity of medical education during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Library
The Central Library inside the campus has more than 500 seats, with separate sections for undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and faculty members. It is one of the best referral medical libraries in Odisha and was declared a resource library for the Eastern Region by the Government of India in 1993.
Hospital Beds
The bed strength of the hospital has progressively increased over the years to meet growing healthcare demands:
Now the hospital has a total of 2132 beds.
Facilities for Physically Challenged Students
Special facilities are available for physically challenged students including ramps, lifts, wheelchairs, walking aids, separate toilets, and suitable accommodation for parents or caregivers to ensure smooth medical education without obstacles.
Current & Proposed Infrastructure at a Glance
As a part of a massive redevelopment project under the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, SCB Medical College is being transformed in to a world-class medical facility with:
- 3000 beds in Phase-1
- 5000 beds after project completion
This transformation will place SCB Medical College among the best medical institutions in the world.
