Brief Information about SCB MCH, Cuttack

  • SCB MCH Cuttack is the largest tertiary care hospital in Eastern Odisha with a capacity of 2132 beds.
  • Bed occupancy is 100%, and the daily average OPD attendance is approximately 7000–8000 patients per day.
  • Casualty attendance is around 300–400 patients daily.
  • There are 166 functional ICU beds.
  • With a high patient loads, the hospital generates enormous waste, making effective waste management a major challenge for administration.

  • The non-infectious general waste (kitchen waste, paper, etc.) is collected and disposed of by Cuttack Municipality.
  • The outsourcing agency M/s Paritosh manages collection, lifting, and transportation to CMC bins.
  • Total General Waste Generated = 10 tons per day
Biomedical Waste
General Waste
  • Waste is segregated at the site of generation as per Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2018 using color-coded bags.
  • Collection, transportation, and disposal are outsourced to MEDIAID Marketing Services Pvt. Ltd.
  • The agency lifts waste from 151 generation points across the hospital.
  • Posters regarding segregation are displayed in each area of the hospital.
