Powering the training programs at WSC is the Academy which plays a pivotal role in equipping students as well as trainers with skills that empowers them for opportunities of future by ensuring skilled youth as well as competent trainers. WSC Academy aspires to be the premier centre of teaching and learning excellence in vocational education in Odisha through its three wings :-

STUDENT CAPABILITY DEVELOPMENT ( LIFE & EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS )

Overview:

The Life & Employability Skills Modules aims for holistic development of students through set of behaviours and skills which are necessary for a person to grow in their career, connect with co-workers, solve problems, function in a team and be independent thinkers. These lead in developing student’s capabilities in 21st Century Skills, namely in the area of personality development , Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Design Thinking , Digital Literacy along with Yoga and Wellness. Employers value these unique attributes as they are essential for a productive and smoothly functioning workforce. At WSC, Students of all trades/schools have to undergo a mandatory 360 hour integrated programme in Life and Employability skills in addition to their technical domain training.

Objective Of Life & Employability Skills Training:

  1. Train students to approach challenges with critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  2. Enhance active listening and interpersonal communication abilities.
  3. Foster the ability to work effectively in diverse groups as a team.
  4. Equip students with digital skills for the modern workplace.
  5. Provide guidance on setting career goals and develop a career plan.
  6. Develop skills for effective communication in a multicultural environment.
  7. Offer practical skills such as resume writing, job searching, and interview preparation.
  8. Provide strategies for managing stress and building emotional resilience.

Importance Of Life & Employability Skills Training For Students

The inclusion of a life skills curriculum with course is essential for the holistic development of individuals. Life skills are the abilities and competencies that help people effectively navigate various aspects of life, enabling them to lead fulfilling and productive lives. Focusing areas are mentioned below

  1. Practical Application : Life skills are applicable to real-life situations.
  2. Personal Development : Fosters self-awareness, self-esteem, and emotional intelligence
  3. Future Preparedness : Equips students for a changing world, enhancing employability.

STAFF CAPABILITY DEVELOPMENT (TRAINING OF TRAINERS)

Overview

Skilling Youth requires trained professionals to shape the young minds for tomorrow.

Under the Hub and Spoke model, WSC Academy Supports all ITI, Polytechnics and other skill training institutes of the state by imparting Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme in the area of Pedagogy strategies, Assessment Techniques, Curriculum Design. Apart from the above signature courses, we have also initiated training in advanced teaching strategies like Differentiated Instruction & Differentiated Assessment, Task Based Learning, Blended Learning, Use of Digital and ELearning tools etc which will deepen the teaching skills of faculty members.

Objective

Training of Trainer programmes play a vital role in improving the overall quality of teaching as it empowers the trainers with the best educational strategies from around the world and help them incorporate student centred learning. Each ToT programme has their own objective/outcome and more information on each of these courses can be found under “Courses Offered”.

  • #Note - The duration mentioned above for all the programmes are only for the face to face classroom training. Each training programme will have an additional 1 to 2 days of virtual / online handholding sessions in addition to the above mentioned days.
  • # Pedagogy (Foundation) and Assessment (Foundation) are the two flagship ToT programmes. The Key learning outcomes of ToT -Pedagogy (Foundation) are (a) Preparation of lesson plan using Gagnes 9 event, (b) Content analysis Map and (c) Learner centered Learning activities. Similarly the key outcomes of the ToT- Assessment (Foundation) are a) preparing of Higher order thinking Questions based on Blooms Taxanomy and b) Preparing of detailed Rubrics for assessment.
